Craft a Moss-Christmas Tree in a Concrete Pot
Cover your work surface for pouring the concrete and gather the following materials: terracotta pot, concrete mix, mixing cup , and aluminum foil.
1. Prepare the terracotta pot
Take a terracotta pot and seal the drainage hole from the inside with aluminum foil so that no concrete leaks during pouring. Cut a piece of flower arrangement foam to fit the bottom of the terracotta pot so that it holds the round rod securely in place but still leaves enough space to pour a layer of concrete on top.
2. Cut the round rod to size
Cut the round rod to the desired length. Be sure to factor in the height of the pot and the future height of the tree. Insert the round rod centrally into the flower arrangement foam inside the terracotta pot, so that it stands stable and straight.
3. Mix and pour the concrete
Mix the concrete in the mixing cup with water until you get a smooth, creamy consistency. Then pour the concrete into the terracotta pot with the flower arrangement foam and the round rod. Gently tap the pot on your work surface to release air bubbles and ensure an even surface. Then let the concrete dry for at least 24 hours.
4. Cover the polystyrene cone with moss
While the concrete is drying, apply hot glue to the surface of the Styrofoam cone in sections and press the moss onto it. Work in small areas so the hot glue doesn’t harden before the moss is in place. Make sure the edges are also neatly covered—this will give the moss-christmas tree a high-quality look.
5. Attaching the chain of light
Wrap the fairylights in a spiral around the moss cone. Start at the top and work your way down so the spacing between the lights is even. Now secure the fairylights with hot glue. Before securing it, quickly check that everything is lit and the switch is easily accessible, then glue the to the bottom of the cone to hide it.
6. Decorating with natural materials
Now decorate the moss tree evenly with bark slices, small pinecones, berries, and orange slices, and glue everything securely in place.
7. Assemble the moss-christmas tree and decorate the concrete
Once the concrete has completely hardened, place the polystyrene cone onto the round rod. Push it on far enough so that it sits securely. Then cover the concrete surface with moss and decorate it with the natural materials.
8. Finishing Touches and Placement
Remove any loose moss to ensure your Christmas tree looks neat. Arrange several moss trees as a set or display a single one as a decorative highlight.
